Breeding Objectives & Guidelines

The breeding guidelines of the Society describe the Namibian Warmblood horse as a noble, big-framed, correct and performance-orientated Warmblood horse, with elastic and balanced movements, as well as a strong aptitude for jumping.

A horse with a good temperament, suitable for all recognized equestrian disciplines.

Within this framework every breeder may breed according to his/her own breeding objectives. Therefore you will find a wide variety of horses, from which to select for your specific requirements.

Horses for jumping, dressage, cross-country or leisure; or horses with the best possible temperament. Accordingly, you will find a variety of stallions in use: Hanoverians, Holsteiners, Belgium Warmblood, KWPN, Thoroughbreds and Trakehner.

All stallions and broodmares have to be licensed. Marks are given for their conformation, movements, type and jumping. The Namibian Warmblood Society is one of the few breeding societies worldwide, where not only the stallions, but also the mares have to perform in free jumping as part of the licensing routine.

The Society always invites a judge from South Africa or Germany to act as chairman of the licensing panel. Member of the licensing panel and judge Mr. David Stubbs from South Africa assisted us for many years and in this way influenced horse breeding in Namibia.

Mr. Cord Wassmann, chairperson of the licensing committee of the Hanoverian Society in Germany, as well as Dr. Wilkens, retired manager of that Society, acted in the same capacity, and were of immense value to the breeding program of our Horse Society, too.

We were fortunate to also gain from the knowledge of the following experts: Mr. S. Bothendorf of the Trakehner licensing commission. Mr.H.Heemke, vice chairman of the Hanoverian Society.

In 2009, the CEO of the Hanoverian Stud, Dr. W. Schade, did head our licensing panel.
In 2010 we did welcome Dr. Axel Brockmann, head of the Celle State Stud
and in 2011 the previous ‘boss of the stallions’ of Celle, Dr B. Bade.

Our strict licensing program and the support by our foreign, internationally recognised judges ensures that our horses conform to a high standard – to the benefit of you, our valued customer.
